Statement: Community Gun Violence in the Twin Cities

December 21, 2022 | In The News

At MACMH, our hearts are heavy for all those who have lost their lives to community gun violence in the Twin Cities this year. We grieve alongside the families and communities who have been touched by these senseless tragedies.

Many of the recent victims have been children and young adults. Some of them were parents with children of their own. All of them had futures that were cut short.

  • Santana Jackson, age 15
  • Jahmari Rice, age 15
  • Deshaun Hill, age 16
  • Angelo Morehead, age 23
  • Malik Travon Carr-Riggins, age 23
  • Casanova Carter, age 26
  • Mahamed Mahamud, age 27
  • Case Samuel Ritzman, age 30
  • Kyle Quinn, age 31
  • Latifa Brown, age 31

Each of these young people should still be alive today.

In addition to those who’ve lost their lives, there are many other victims of this recent violence, including those who’ve witnessed a shooting, those who’ve been shot and survived their injuries and those who are mourning the loss of someone close to them.

These horrifying events harm the mental health and well-being of so many and undermine our communities as a whole. We know you and your family may be experiencing trauma, grief and fear as a result of this violence.

The following resources are intended to help survivors, bystanders and grieving community members care for their mental health amid ongoing gun violence.

We hope you’re finding ways to care for yourself, and please know we’ll continue to be here to support you and your family.
