Our History

Like many wonderful nonprofits, the Minnesota Association for Children’s Mental Health was born out of an observed need. A group of dedicated parents of children with mental health disorders understood that there was an underserved area in children’s health care. The founding coalition of parents established The Minnesota Association for Children’s Mental Health in 1989 as a way to advocate for their children and other children and families across Minnesota in need of mental health care. The group of parents turned into a board of directors who slowly began to start hiring staff to further their mission and vision. Parent support groups were developed. Family coaching began. Education ensued. Youth programs flourished.

Today, the vision for education and coaching is alive and well, and it’s only grown. MACMH’s mission to “promote and pursue optimal mental health from infancy to young adulthood” guides the work of our employees and countless volunteers. The team at the Minnesota Association for Children’s Mental Health is continuing to innovate ways to serve Minnesota children and families.

We have the history of many programs on the list to add to this page. As they are gathered they will be posted here.
