Reflective Consultation

Reflective Consultation is a relationship-based practice designed for professionals to discuss their work one-on-one or in small groups, providing a designated opportunity to reflect on the ways in which one’s beliefs, life experiences and values impact one’s work with young children and families.

Open to anyone working with or on behalf of infants, young children, and their caregivers (including those in early care and education, mental health, child protection, public health, etc.), opportunities are available for both individual and agency-wide reflective consultation.

BIPOC Leadership & Community | Group Reflective Consultation | FREE | Virtual via Zoom

Description: Group reflective consultation is a relationship-based practice designed for professionals to discuss their work in small groups. Reflective Consultation groups provide designated opportunities to reflect on the ways in which one’s beliefs, life experiences and values impact their work with young children and families, as well as build community amongst multidisciplinary professionals. 

This reflective consultation group is by and for early childhood professionals who identify as Black, Indigenous or a Person of Color (BIPOC). Participants are also encouraged to be Endorsed early childhood professionals, or actively pursuing Endorsement (with an active application in the EASy system).

About the Facilitator

Arielle Handevidt, MA, IMH-E®, is the Director of Early Childhood at Northside Achievement Zone (NAZ). In her role at NAZ, she works with partners, parents, scholars and community to permanently close the achievement gap and end generational poverty in North Minneapolis.

In addition to her work at NAZ, Arielle is an instructor at the University of Minnesota in the Infant and Early Childhood Mental Health Master’s and Certificate program and provides professional development opportunities such as reflective consultation and workshops to those in the infant and early childhood field. Arielle has a background in early care and education and she holds a Bachelor’s degree in Child Development and Family Studies and a Master’s degree in Child and Adolescent Development with an emphasis In Infant and Early Childhood Mental Health.

Group Reflective Consultation | $60 | Virtual via Zoom

About the Facilitator

Pam Walz, MS, LMFT, RPT, IMH-E® is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, a Registered Play Therapist, and an Infant Mental Health Specialist. She works at Ellison Center in St. Cloud providing outpatient services to children and caregivers, reflective consultation services for a variety of organizations across the state, and provides Early Childhood Mental Health Consultation for child care programs around the Central Minnesota area. Pam brings over 30 years in the field of early childhood into her work. She approaches all of her work with a developmental, attachment, and family systems lens.

About the Facilitator

Sara McGee, MA, LMFT, IMH-E®, PMH-C is a licensed independent marriage and family therapist who specializes in working with adults, children, families and couples who are experiencing a wide range of mental health symptoms, behavioral struggles, relationship difficulties, parenting difficulties and perinatal mental health concerns.

Sara is trained to diagnose and treat young children using the DC: 0-5 diagnostic assessment and is trained in Child Parent Psychotherapy, Circle Security Parenting and Experiential Play therapy. She is endorsed as an infant and early childhood mental health specialist (IMH-E) and is certified in Perinatal Mental Health (PMH-C).
